The Weekend Edition: Zoe

Every Monday, you will get to read a post by a twenty-something answering some questions about their weekend, how they balance financial needs and brunch needs, their favorite spots around town and whether everyone really experiences FOMO. NAME, AGE, HOMETOWN, OCCUPATION?

My name is Zoe! I’m 22, my hometown is Baltimore, Maryland and I am a biomedical engineer.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a dolphin trainer. I loved going to the aquarium and seeing the dolphin shows. I’ve always wanted to get in a wet suit and swim with the dolphins in front of an audience because it looked like so much fun! However, I became an engineer so I’ve settled for just watching the dolphins in the ocean instead of swimming with them 🙂

WHAT WERE YOUR ORIGINAL PLANS FOR THE WEEKEND AS OF FRIDAY AFTERNOON? DID ANY FALL THROUGH?

As of Friday afternoon, my plans were to stay in that night and have a chill evening of watching “This Is Us” (my new favorite show). I watch half the show and cry through the other half. I strongly suggest it if you haven’t seen it! On Saturday, I was going to have a day of wine and relaxation with my friend Becca at her house, before babysitting 3 kids later that evening. God knows I needed a glass of wine to get through changing diapers and watching Disney Channel. Becca and I watched a classic movie, Fired Up, before going out to dinner where we had the most delicious crab dip pretzels with extra Old Bay seasoning. Finally, my big plans were on Sunday! Becca and I bought tickets to attend the first annual Baltimore Taco Festival downtown in the city. We were going to grab brunch at Wit & Wisdom at the Four Seasons Hotel before stuffing our faces with some street tacos and margaritas!  Always remember to surround yourself with tacos, not negativity! Luckily, none of our plans fell through!

HOW MUCH MONEY DID YOU SPEND?

Overall I spent $30 at dinner Saturday night, $31 at brunch Saturday morning, $15 for the taco festival admission ticket and another $15 for festival food and drink vouchers.

WERE YOU HAPPY WITH HOW YOUR WEEKEND TURNED OUT? WAS THERE ANYTHING YOU WISH YOU DID?

Surprisingly, I am quite content with how my weekend turned out! It was just the right balance of exciting yet relaxing and low key; which is just what I wanted after a week of work. I feel like during the work week, we are always on a schedule; running from event to event. It was refreshing to have general plans for the weekend with no real schedule to follow.

ANY FUN PLANS FOR NEXT WEEKEND?

As for next weekend, my sister is coming home for fall break from Dickinson College. We don’t have any solid plans yet but I think we might do some shopping and check out a few fall festivals near us. Maybe we’ll pick some pumpkins and carve them or find a hayride somewhere. We also love hiking together so we might go to Loch Raven Reservoir and hike some of our favorite trails to see the changing foliage.

YOUR RECOMMENDATION FOR THE BEST SPOT ON THE WEEKENDS?

When in Baltimore, definitely check out Bond Street Social or Miss Shirley’s Cafe, if you want a good brunch! Boordy Vineyards is always a fun place to hang out and drink wine while listening to live music and overlooking the countryside. If you’re looking for more excitement, Fell’s Point has a great young bar scene with awesome drink specials that won’t break the bank on a fun weekend out!
