The Weekend Edition: Paula

Every Monday, you will get to read a post by a twenty-something answering some questions about their weekend, how they balance financial needs and brunch needs, their favorite spots around town and whether everyone really experiences FOMO. NAME, AGE, HOMETOWN, OCCUPATION?

I’m Paula (Pauli). I’m originally from Guatemala City, but lived in different countries all my life (in Panama City, Panama for the longest). I’m a senior, majoring in biology at George Washington University!

WHAT WERE YOUR ORIGINAL PLANS FOR THE WEEKEND AS OF FRIDAY AFTERNOON? DID ANY FALL THROUGH?

On Friday, I was supposed to get Korean BBQ with some friends in Annandale, and surprisingly, it didn’t fall through. We made it “all the way out” to Annandale to Honey Pig Gooldaegee with people who have never had KBBQ before, so it was fun seeing how much they loved it.

I did not have any plans for Saturday, but ended up cooking dinner with friends at my apartment. After that, I went over to my friends’ place for some drinks. By 11:30 I was snuggled up watching Always Sunny on Netflix – so pretty successful night. On Sunday, I had planned to go to the library to get some work done, and after that, ended up having my brother over for dinner!

HOW MUCH MONEY DID YOU SPEND?

About $25 on Uber, $20 on drinks, $35 on food, so $80 total for the weekend.

WERE YOU HAPPY WITH HOW YOUR WEEKEND TURNED OUT? WAS THERE ANYTHING YOU WISH YOU DID?

I was very happy with how my weekend turned out! I wish I had woken up a little bit earlier on Saturday and Sunday so that I could get more work done and planned for the week ahead, but overall, it was a solid weekend.

Any fun plans for next weekend?

None as of right now, but hopefully something will come along! I have a really busy week coming up after next weekend, so one thing I know for sure is that I’ll have some studying to do.

YOUR RECOMMENDATION FOR THE BEST SPOT ON THE WEEKENDS?

The Gibson! It’s a speakeasy bar on U Street. The door is unmarked, so it’s really easy to miss if you’re not paying attention. The inside is different from any other bar I’ve ever been to, the staff is super nice, and the drinks are unbelievable.
